Peter and Christina Winch of Winch’s Pine Grove
Farms, LP
will be hosting the 2006 Dutch Belted Cattle Association of America
Spring Open
House on Saturday, April 29, 2006.
Cattle viewing will begin at 1 p.m.
The Winch’s are currently the largest herd of Dutch Belts in Wisconsin. Of the 180 cows they milk, 70% are Dutch
Belted Cattle. 90% of their 90
replacement heifers are Dutch Belts.
They also have 3 bulls. The open
house is designed to allow Dutch Belted Cattle breeders, enthusiast,
and the
public to come view this rare breed of dairy cattle.
The Winch’s started breeding Dutch Belted
cattle in 1991 through the breed-up program.
The cattle are rotationally grazed most of the year. They are milked in a swing 12 parlor and
housed in two coverall buildings with free-stalls.
There is a third coverall that contains the
feed bunk. The farm is located at 12742 Brown School Road Fennimore, WI. Brown
School Road can be accessed from Highway 18,
about
2 miles east of Fennimore and 6-7 miles west of Montfort.
Watch for signs. For more
information please contact Peter and
Christina Winch at 608-822-7806.
